The 9th Arya Keshma Spring Dharma Gathering

Date: 16th February – 19th March 2025
Location: Terga Monastery, Bodhgaya, India

The 9th Arya Keshma Dharma Gathering was successfully held in Bodhgaya from 16th February to 19th March 2025. The opening ceremony was graced by His Eminence the 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche, who conferred the Empowerment of The Five Dietary Tara, setting a profound spiritual tone for the month-long event.

This annual program is one of the key initiatives of the Kun Kyong Charitable Trust, under the guidance of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, aimed at advancing the quality and accessibility of monastic education for Buddhist nuns. The 9th edition brought together around five hundred students and masters from eight different nunneries and institutes, reflecting the growing interconnection among Kagyu institutions.

This year’s program was coordinated by Kyegue Dhagmo Choling Nunnery, Ralang, Sikkim. Through its structured curriculum, the gathering provided intensive instruction in Buddhist philosophy, ritual practice, and traditional teachings. Students were divided into multi-level teams that encouraged peer learning and collaboration across institutions.

A highlight of the gathering was the series of inter-team philosophical debate competitions, which served as a powerful platform for students to refine their understanding of core Buddhist concepts, develop critical thinking, and build confidence. The debates also played a vital role in fostering mutual respect, camaraderie, and intellectual exchange among participating institutions.

Outperforming team/students were recognized with certificates, medals, and prizes, celebrating their dedication and scholastic achievements.

The Kun Kyong Charitable Trust comprehensively supported all aspects of the event—including travel, accommodation, meals, medical care, and other logistical needs—demonstrating a steadfast commitment to creating equitable learning opportunities and nurturing the next generation of female Buddhist practitioners and scholars.

This gathering continues to be a meaningful step toward the standardization of curriculum, the empowerment of nuns, and the strengthening of inter-nunnery bonds within the Kagyu tradition.
