June 26, 2016: On the 31st birthday of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, Kun Kyong Charitable Trust celebrated the day with children diagnosed with cancer at the St. Jude India ChildCare Centres (St. Judes) , Noida by distributing the packets of assorted dry fruits and games for the children.
Kun Kyong Charitable Trust made a donation of Rs 5,00,000/- which was received by the head of the center, Mr. Pradeep Puri.
St. Jude India ChildCare Centres (St. Judes) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in Bombay in 2006, providing free accommodation and holistic support to needy children suffering from cancer, who travel along with their parents from rural India, to receive life-saving treatment in the metros. They currently run 18 centres with 223 family units in five cities, namely Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad and Jaipur. (www.stjudeschild.org)
St. Jude provides free, safe, clean and hygienic housing facility, nutritional support, transport facility to and from the hospital, counselling, new skills of income generation, educational and recreational activities, art-based and music therapy and yoga. In short, they bridge the gap between what the hospital provides and what every child needs to recover from a disease like cancer.
Later St. Judes wrote, “It was a happy Sunday for our kids in June when members of the Kun Kyong Charitable Trust, led by the organizer Lhakpa Tsering, came from Hong Kong to celebrate the birthday of HH Karmapa at our Delhi Centres.”
